Link Electronics PCE-845D Closed Caption Encoder - Line21-F1 and F2 With Decoder
for Inserting Caption and Text data on line 21 of theNTSC signal. The PCE-845 will insert four channelsof data that are multiplexed into the vertical intervalon line 21 of field one. The four channels of line 21are described as Caption Channel One, CaptionChannel Two, Text Channel One, and Text ChannelTwo.
The PCE 845 also processes data on Line 21 of fieldtwo to meet the new revised FCC specifications. Tomeet future requirements, the PCE 845 is capable ofinserting data on lines 10 through 25. A singleinternal jumper selects correct line placement. Theunit is compatible with PAL closed caption, andcaption data is usually inserted on Line 22 of fieldone. Line voltage operation is recommended for115/240VAC, 50/60Hz, internally selected. The inputsignals are composite video, S/VHS, or Y, R-Y, B-Y.
There are two composite video outputs. If acomponent format is used, the delay of each signalpath is carefully matched, providing transparentthru-put. An RS-232C Input/output data port isprovided on the rear panel that operates from 600to 4800 baud (jumper selected). A second dataport can accommodate an external modem. Aswitch on the front panel labeled "TEST" places atest message on line 21 to confirm properoperation of the encoder. A modem and computercan be connected to the PCE-845 simultaneouslyto receive local and remote caption data.Two front panel LED's indicate the operation infield one or field two. Other status indicatorsconfirm the presence of input video and RS-232.By-pass mode may be selected from the frontpanel, by software commands or via remotecontrol. By-pass is transparent, and will not glitchthe video signal when selected.
