The Compact Ball Head is strong enough to take 35mm SLR cameras with medium lenses, light medium format cameras or small hand held DV cameras. The Manfrotto 496 has a single indexed "ratchet" locking knob for 360 degree pan and +90 degree -90 degree tilt movements. Camera attachment is via a 50mm platform with 1/4" male thread. Head to tripod attachment is 3/8" female. All aluminium construction and black finish.
