Channel Talker CTD16-C 16 AES Channel Audio Tone Generator with Voice Over ID; Full Feature

  • Sixteen AES/EBU digital channels
  • AUX channel with 4 specialty tones
  • DAR/House Black input: Locks to house reference
  • DAR output reference
  • Perfect for setting up and testing 16 channel studios and digital Dolby® 5.1
  • 3 Models to choose from.

The CTD-16 makes it possible for one person to setup or verify all the AES/EBU digital audio channels in his facility - easily, quickly, and accurately. The unit produces a hands-free audible sequential voice ID for each channel, eliminating the need for external generators or extra personnel to switch between sources. In addition to the voice ID's, the CTD-16 includes AUX channel tones allowing both narrow and wide band frequency response testing, and for spectrum analyzers, a pink noise generator is included. Finally, there is a modified sine wave output that can be monitored at the audio system output to verify that there has not been an audio phase reversal in the system. Audio phasing or polarity can be verified either visually (oscilloscope or hand-held video scope) or with an approved polarity detector (CL-1 Channel Listener).

Channel Talker Specifications:
  • 16 Tone Channels: Digitally generated, exactly -20dBFS, 1000 Hz tone with sequential voice markers on all channels (8 digital streams), 19-Bit resolution, and 20-bit compatible. Outputs are AES/EBU compatible (75 Ohm BNC). All matching tones are in phase.
  • AUX Channel: Digital stream output with 3 selectable tones (4 tones on -C model includes Step-6 ), Step-12, Pink Noise, and Polarity. Identical information is on both channels. Output is AES/EBU compatible (75 Ohm BNC).
    • Step-6: Six stepped tones: 125, 250, 500, 1000, 2000, and 4000Hz. Duration 500ms each continuously repeating. Output level exactly -20 dBFS with 19-bit resolution and 20-bit compatible.
    • Step-12: Twelve stepped tones: 12.5, 25, 50, 125, 250, 500, 1000, 2000, 4000, 8000, 12000, and 17000Hz. Duration 500ms each continuously repeating. Output level is exactly -20 dBFS with 19-bit resolution and 20-bit compatible.
    • PINK Noise: Pink noise wave file. Output level is -20 dBFS average, 16-bit resolution, and 20-bit compatible. Repeat rate 2.73sec.
    • Polarity: 600Hz, exactly -20dBFS, digitally generated tone modified so that the negative half of every fourth sine wave is truncated to -50% for identification.
  • DAR Output: One Digital Audio Reference output (DAR). Audio output Left and Right = 0.00 volts (minus infinity db - dead silence). Class 1 reference signal.
  • DAR/Color Black Input: Locks to external DAR reference 48Khz data stream, or standard house reference black analog video.
  • Channel ID: Sequential voice channel ID overlay on all 16 channels for ease of identification. Natural voice wav file. Unit is pre-programmed with generic sequencing 1/2 sec phrases ("One", "Two", "Three", etc.). Internally selectable to 1-sec phrases.
  • Station ID: Voice station/unit ID overlay on all 16 channels. Supports up to 16 second message. Default: No message.
  • AES/EBU Stereo digital outputs: All digital serial outputs are greater than 1.0VP-P into 75 Ohms. BNC connectors. All tones and data streams are in phase.
  • Input Voltage: 6VDC to 14VDC (12VDC nominal). Connector 2.1mm X 5.5mm X 11mm (inside x outside x Length). Unit is compatible with automobile battery voltage (13.2VDC).

Voice ID Phrase Download Software (Optional):
Channel Talker Voice overlay channel ID and Station ID are wave files. The Channel ID file can be custom programmed, providing the overlay information can fit in either 0.5 sec or 1.0 sec segments. The Station ID file can be any message from 0 to 16 seconds. Voice ID information is downloaded to non-volatile FLASH memory. Both messages are stored at 8K samples/sec.
Change the message as often as needed. 10,000 write cycles typical.
